Visiting our friends in the Oisans!

On our route from Briançon to the Oisans, where Kevin and Rosan were waiting for us, we made a stop in Villar-d’Arêne for an overnight stay. The view in this area is really beautiful: mountains, grasslands, rocks. You drive through the valley at the foot of the mountain La Meije. It’s incredibly beautiful here! It was a lovely little stopover on our way visiting our friends in the Oisans.

Our first night together

They are even depicted on the road sign.

The next day we drove to the campsite where Kev and Rosie were. It’s really nice to see them again and to hear their Italy-stories, where they have just been for a couple of days. That evening, we decided to go on a pub crawl, always a good plan! Unfortunately, it turned out to be Monday evening… None of us had realized this and once we got to the centre of Le Bourg-d’Oisans, all the pubs were closed, except for one. Well, no problem, we can still make this work. We will just visit one single pub, in that case, the outcome was the same: we all got very verry drunk. On the way back to the campsite, the boys were so paralyzed, luckily it only just went well when they started a fence jumping competition…

Different activity from climbing #1

We set out the next day, packed with a big old hangover and everything, the works. No, this time we did not set off for climbing, we set off for rafting! We all thought this would be a super fun thing to do and a good change from climbing. We all went for it! Although it was actually the end of rafting the season, and therefore the current of the water was less strong, it was a lot of fun. The water, however, was still freezing cold!

In the evening we went out for dinner. We now had a standard order. The boys went for the burgers and the girls for the Steak Tartaaarrrrr!

Different activity from climbing #2

The next day there was another unique event, we went for a hike! Kevin’s favorite activity :). Rosan had chosen a beautiful lake, Lac Lauvitel, where there was a nice hike of 3.5 km each way and about 600-meter elevation. Once we arrived at the lake we were ready for a refreshing dip in the water. Well, all except Martijn of course. He knows better than to swim in mountain lakes. COLD!!!!!!

After this nice hike it was already time to say goodbye. Kevin and Rosan drove back home, and we went back to Briançon. It was crazy to have these champs close again. To laugh and climb together, and apparently we can also enjoy a holiday together without climbing!! Hasta la Proxima chicos!!

On the route back to Briançon we made another photo-stop at the beautiful town of La Grave. The church of the Eglise Notre Dame De L’Assomption is one of the most beautiful I have seen. With this view of La Meije. Wow, very special.
