Finally! Climbing pictures of us in Nafplio
Seen as Martijn and I are always occupied with belaying each other whilst climbing, there are practically no climbing pictures of us in action. We thought to make an exception and brought the camera and a tripod with us to the Karathona sector in Nafplio. With the timelapse setting, the camera takes pictures at a set interval automatically! Winter is over! | Climbing & touristing in beautiful Nafplio
Over the last three weeks, we travelled through the wonderful Peloponnese (Post Tour #1, Tour #2, Tour #3, Tour #4 & Tour #5). Now it was time to stay in one place for a little longer, and there is no more perfect place to do so than Nafplio! We had been wanting to come here for quite some time now, but due to the corona measures in Greece, we didn’t really dare to. Peloponnesos tour #5: hiking in the mountains
Lately, we have only been spending time in coastal regions. Greece is of course known for its exquisite coastlines, but there is also some stunning scenery to be found inland. Therefore, it was time for us to go hiking in the mountains! Peloponnesos tour #4: time to explore The Mani Peninsula
After spending only a week in Kyparissi, we decided to move on for now. We know we are coming back for some more serious climbing when we are both in better shape. Therefore, now is an excellent time to explore The Mani Peninsula of the beautiful Peloponnesos. Mani is the middle of the three south-facing fingers of the Peloponnesos. Apparently, it is characterised by desertedness, vast landscapes and beautiful, mostly abandoned, stone villages. This is indeed what we’ve seen and it’s absolutely stunning. Peloponnesos tour #3: Kyparissi, the first time around…
The second week of January was spent in the lovely coastal town of Kyparissi. We had seen some footage of this idyllic place on the vlogs of A World Less Traveled and had been very curious to go check it out ourselves! We climbed in the Kastraki sector because it is packed with nice routes in the 6th grade. On our first climbing day there I had worked out all the moves of a really nice 6c route called Frydias. Peloponnesos tour #2: Swimming at Fossil Forest Beach on new years day, Climbing at Zobolo & Hiking to Cape Maleas
Next stop op onze tour van de Peloponnesos was Zobolo, het meest zuidelijk gelegen klimgebied van vastenland Griekenland. Zie hieronder op de kaart waar dat precies ligt. Hier hebben we in volledige stilte en verlatenheid met z’n tweetjes oud en nieuw gevierd. Wat een ervaring zeg, heerlijk! Prachtige klimwand ten noorden van ons, uitzicht over de mediterraanse zee in zowel het oosten, westen als zuiden, en verder helemaal niets of niemand in de wijdste omgeving te bekennen. Peloponnesos tour #1: The hidden town of Monemvasia
Nadat we Kerst met Steffie & Jo in Leonidio hadden gevierd was het tijd voor een change of scenery. Met het prachtige cadeau dat we van hen hebben gekregen voor het uitlenen van ons klimmateriaal, was het al helemaal tijd om de wijdere omgeving te gaan ontdekken: de klimtopo van heel Griekenland. Plan was om op het schiereiland van de Peloponnesos rond te trekken. Qua corona ging het daar goed, en daarbij is het op dit schiereiland erg dunbevolkt, dus is het heel erg makkelijk afstand houden overal. Onze eerste stop was Monemvasia, een prachtig oud dorpje gelegen aan de achterkant van een gigantische rots die vrij staat in zee.…

Klimmen en Kerstavond vieren met onze buddies Steffie & Jo
We vinden het zo gezellig dat Steffie en Jo hebben besloten nog een paar weken met ons te klimmen in Leonidio! We kunnen het super goed met elkaar vinden en koken net als op de Olive Farm om de dag voor elkaar en eten gezellig samen. We staan samen met zo een acht andere busjes op het strand van Plaka geparkeerd. Een kleine vijf minuten rijden verwijderd van het centrum van Leonidio. Er heerst in Leonidio helaas wel een andere sfeer nu er een lockdown geldt. Hoewel er nog steeds wel mensen op straat te zien zijn, en je bij restaurants nog wel eten kan bestellen om af te halen,…

Back to Leonidio!!
Nadat we een heerlijke week in Vlychada hadden gehad met z’n vijven, namen wij afscheid van iedereen. Vanessa ging terug naar Gythio en Steffie & Jo gingen verder naar het zuiden van de Peloponnesos om wat nieuwe plekken te ontdekken. Gezien het ons zonder problemen was gelukt om van Gythio naar Vlychada te rijden, zou het ons ook wel lukken om van Vlychada naar Leonidio te rijden. Wij gingen dus terug naar het klimmers Mekka van vasteland Griekenland!! In de eerste week dat we terug in Leonidio waren, hebben wij twee keer in Dornröschen geklommen en één keer in Theos.
